Sekcija za IT infrastrukturo in podatkovne centre

About Us

The IT Infrastructure & Data Center Section is part of the ICT Association of Slovenia, one of the industry associations operating within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (CCIS).

Mission Statement

The mission of the Section is to promote and support the development of IT infrastructure and data centres in Slovenia, positioning them as a fundamental pillar of digital transformation across the economy, the public sector, and society as a whole.

Key objectives

- Bring together operators, technology vendors, and system integrators active in the IT infrastructure and data centre sector, while fostering stronger connections with end users.

- Promote Slovenia internationally as a high-tech destination for investment in IT infrastructure and data centres, capable of hosting facilities for leading global technology companies and major scientific research projects. This objective is supported through a range of activities, including active engagement with the Slovenian Government.

- Establish an ongoing dialogue with the Slovenian Government to help shape policies and legislation that support the sustainable development of IT infrastructure and data centres, create a favourable investment environment, and encourage the use of renewable energy sources.

- Develop a knowledge centre that provides members with access to professional expertise and best practices, while establishing specialised training programmes for data centre designers in cooperation with the Slovenian Chamber of Engineers.

International cooperation

IT Infrastructure & Data Center Section is a member of the European Data Centre Association (EUDCA).

Plans for 2026

Across Europe, private investors are making significant investments in data centres and AI infrastructure. In 2026, the Section will continue its dialogue with the Slovenian Government to strengthen strategic support for these investments and position Slovenia as an attractive destination for international data centre and AI infrastructure projects.

Slovenia's strategic location at the crossroads of Central Europe, the Balkans, and the Mediterranean positions it as a natural digital connectivity hub. It provides efficient access to neighbouring markets, including Austria, Northern Italy, Croatia, Serbia, and the wider Western Balkans. With network latency of approximately 10 milliseconds to major European business centres, Slovenia offers excellent connectivity for digital infrastructure and cloud services.

To capitalise on these advantages, Slovenia must ensure the availability of suitable development sites, sufficient and reliable energy capacity, and a competitive investment environment. The development of data centres also creates opportunities for public-private partnerships, particularly through the reuse of waste heat from large-scale facilities in district heating systems, contributing to both energy efficiency and sustainability.

Key activities:

  • Planning further actions to enforce the Strategy for positioning Slovenia as a regional digital hub, a document SITIP members are co-authoring .
  • Promotion of the document "National Cloud Development Strategy" among state institutions.
  • Participation in international annual events (Kickstart Amsterdam, February 3-4, 2026; DCD Connect London, September 16-17, 2026).
  • Co-organization of the DATA CENTER INDUSTRY event on April 23, 2026, in Ljubljana. More info here.
  • Networking with stakeholders from the wider region.
